Top 5 Tips for Better Communication
Communication is a key aspect of day to day life, and improving your communication skills will greatly improve many aspects of your career and personal life.
This month we are going to look in depth at how to effectively communicate in all aspects of life, and we shall start this off with a few tips around how to quickly improve our communication skills.
Listening is paramount
No one ever learnt anything when speaking, and this is a key thing to remember during any conversation. There’s nothing more frustrating that someone not listening to you or interrupting you.
It’s okay to disagree Sometimes you may disagree with someone’s views or opinions, and that’s okay if both parties understand and respect this. Don’t let it stop you from having a well constructed discussion.
Don’t forget about body language
We can do everything on this list right, but if our body language isn’t correct then it could all be for nothing. Crossing our arms or looking around or at our phones for example can come across rude and closed off. Don’t forget, body language and the way you sit also comes across over the phone, so bear it in mind always!
Be a storyteller
Here at Sirenna, whenever we create eLearning we do this by telling a story. Stories are a great way to engage people, and can make even the most mundane of subjects an area of great intrigue. We all can tell a story.
Be interested, not always interesting
Focus on being interested in what the other person has to say, and listen to what they’re telling you rather than trying to think about yourself or what you can say. Often I have started telling a story when someone has interrupted with a story of their own!
We shall cover these points in more depth this month, and talk more about how we can improve in many of these areas and more. If you have any tips of your own, please comment and let us know!
